Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone might know the correct letters/numbers for a pre a coupe with build date 4/15/54 generator? I have several 6 volt generators and now I don't know which one would be the right one for this manufacture date. I know that there could be a range but I was hoping there might be some info on that range.

From the '54 shop manual the Bosch RED 130/6/2600 (AL16 or AL15) was used through late '53. At coupe 51608 and cab 60386 the 160 watt Bosch LJ/GE/160/6/2500 L2 was installed. The same 160 watt generator is listed in the '56 workshop manual for 1300 and 1600 356As, so this should be the correct generator for your '54.. As noted the voltage regulators for the 160 watt generators were mounted separately.

I was able to contact Tom Birch he knows my car very well and according to him (my car having the regulator under the dash) should have the Bosch LJ/GE 160/6/2500 L2 as you suggested with 1or2K under that right next to the arrow, 1st or 2nd month K indicating 1954.


The 130/6/2600 have the regulator mounted on the generator.
