Dash Light

#1 Post by Paul Jorgensen »

Below is a picture of the dash/map light on my car, it does not work and the reason for that is it has no inners. The outer tube with the ivory knob pulls out as I assume it should.
Basically it is a an empty sliding tube.
Does anyone have a picture of one stripped down so that I could possibly make the parts, or know where I can obtain the parts.

Cheers
Paul

I have managed to purchase a reproduction dash map light, I have removed the one that was in the car which is what looks like the VW longer version as it hits the wiper mechanism before it closes fully. As you know it has no inners. The reproduction one has 2 terminals.
Does anyone know how it is wired and being a bit anal, what are the cable colours.
A picture of the cables would be of great help if anyone has a stored picture.

Cheers
Paul

Not exactly "stripped down" but you may be able to see enough detail from these photos. The bulb holder is likely identical to the torpedo bulb fixtures on the old license lights. If you have an old parts fixture you may be able to salvage the component from it, or these may be available from an auto-electrics supplier.
Last pic is after installing new plastic lens from Jeroen I received last week - perfect color & fit!

From Leoni's '53 electrics manual. Hot wire on my YnZ harness is no. 24 and is tan in color. I'm not sure the color of the ground wire as I haven't installed it yet.
