Always wondered ... on '53's as fielded/shown (concours) ... and images of trunk interiors on "correct" cars, I've noted: The Turbo-Ring (factory set as required, or later from Porsche/Qualitest Accessory catalog - QA28) ... was the "spare ring" as displayed ... right-run, or left-run?

Both. Take your pick.

They made equal numbers of both sides, so it's likely there were equal numbers of spares left or right. The important thing is to get the ones on the wheels on in the right direction.

Yes at least on a '53.

Hi Frank,

Yes, Reutter installed carpeting forward of the fuel tank on coupes and cabs through at least 1954. For 1955 they used the padded vinyl instead of carpet on the vertical surfaces. I believe this happened sometime in late 1954, but not positive. The padded vinyl was similar to the stuff found in the engine compartment.

The split-window cars of 1950-52 even had carpet on the horizontal surface in front of the fuel tank, below the spare tire. When they modified the spare tire to mount at an angle on the bent-window cars, they replaced that carpet with schutz and a rubber mat, but retained the carpet on the side walls.

The side and rear walls were not painted black or covered in schutz - just body color. Then the black bitumum felt sound deadening was glued to the areas surrounding the fuel tank, and carpet glued to the areas forward of the fuel tank.
