I have 2 horns off cars that were in pieces -- one a 53 and one from a 56 coupe. Hopefully the pictures are sufficient and maybe someone can help me determine the correct one, or neither --? Thanks, Bruce

The horns are a matched pair for late 356B and early 356C.

The '53 parts book (top) and '55 parts book (bottom) list a normal HO/FSA 6/3 and an extra loud or road horn HO/FSA 6/4.
Most if not all '53s came with only one horn on the driver's side. The most common is the 6/4 road horn.
My '53 came with this HO/FDF 6/147 with a VW stamp on the back. My car was a German delivery 1300N that may have been outfitted different from the Hoffman cars - or it could be a replacement by a PO. I have a HO/FSA 6/4, but if I can get the 6/147 to work I plan to re-install it.

Bruce, in addition to Spencer's comments above I would also look for the date stamp. Some are hard to read but the stamp is on the outer lip.

The Hoffman cars in 1953 got a single horn, and it was either the normal one with 6 perimeter screws, or the loud one the size of a dinner plate with 8 perimeter screws. Your Super would have likely had a loud one Bruce. That's the HO/FSA 6/4. See photo below.

I tried to repair the Bosch 6/4 on my 1953 and found it's more art than science so I shipped it off to Julian Hardy in Atlanta for repair. Fast turnaround and it works perfectly. He advertises in the classifieds.
