Hello,
I have a question about the mount in the fotos.
The first picture is from our coupe.
The second foto from coupe 50604 with the same fixture. Both are build in May `53.
It looks somehow original.
Does someone know for what task this could be used for ?
Thank you
Erik

Perhaps an upper mount for a trailer hitch.
Two cars? That sort of takes it out of the backyard engineering category.

Is it in the second picture? I see no evidence of it.

Re: `53 coupe mount in the engine compartment
sorry, I was unclear,
yes two cars 50598 and 50604
These are two identical brackets on the the same position (driver side) in both cars.
Both cars were raced. I think it could be used for a electric fuelpump.

Could they have been for a gas heater?

Thank you Martin ,
maybe, I think the mount is a bit to tiny, but how knows.

Re: `53 coupe mount in the engine compartment
If I am correct early cars didn't have oil filters (other than the strainer in the motor) unless dealer or owner installed. This is what was in Walt. It looks homemade for sure and also mounts a Bendix fuel pump. Someone will chime in as to when filters started to be mounted on the motor.

Thank you very much for the foto, that could be the explanation.

Cool photos Neil. That explains it!
Yeah, oil filter canisters became standard on all Porsche engines from 15 June 1953 onward. They had started using them a bit earlier on the 528 motors or via special order, and of course all engines since 1951 were drilled for the oil return line, so they could always be easily added at a later date.
