Re: 53 1500S Radium Green
I know it's a photo and sometimes things look different in real life, but it looks like the metallic flake is quite large in the Radium green spray out. Glasurit makes several sizes of metallic flake. I would verify that it has the same super-fine look as the stuff under the Reutter tag. German metallics from the 1950s use very small flake. Large flake metallics are very common in automotive paints on modern cars.
If it's just the photo, then ignore my comment!
Glad you found the original paint. The car is going to look fantastic in that color scheme!

Picked up Reutter cert for 60238 at PO this morning. Dash & door top trim reference R 503 same as Ross' car. (Awesome color that Radium Green by the way.) The maroon color swatch matches my color scanned dash paint and the red matches the Spinneybeck 0555 Sealing Wax interior leather pretty close. Photos of unrestored '53s with reddish-brown interior are closer to the Spinneybeck swatch than to the Reutter cert.Spencer Harris wrote:I color matched my dash paint to original when repainted, but I'm waiting on the Reutter certificate. Will be interesting to see if it references the 503 color code for dash color like Ross' car.
The only inconsistency I find in the Erlkonig document is that the convertible frame is listed as beige. I chemically stripped the frame to avoid abrasives from media blasting, and I'm quite sure it was black. Satin finish black powder coated now!

Hi Ross,
Here is a pic of my early '54 Radium Green. Very similar to what you have picked I believe. The metallic is definitely very fine. I know you said that the metallic flake is fine in the Glasurit but if you need it finer I would be glad to find out the info for the paint I used.

I am also mid way through a radium green 1953 1500s restoration, and maroon was my dash color. As usual, James had it right and a little sanding revealed the primer, radium green, then maroon. We should compare notes! Bruce

What was your reference for the color ? Did you find original paint on the car ? Have you painted it in Glasurit? If so what metallic flake code did they use ?
My local Glasurit guys have offered me a few choices of micro fine flakes - interesting that the finest micro flake doesnt look very good as a sample - almost a flat paint in sunlight

Hi Ross,
I will find out what paint supplier we used and PM you with any info I find out. It was painted several years ago I so need to go to the restorer and look through the records first when I get back in town.

Hi Ross,
I have not been in the forum for a long time. Sorry. The completion date in May / June could not be kept. The paint, the Engine, the upholstery are finished and are currently being installed. Mr. Eickholz had promised to create the paint with Glasurit, but the whole thing took me too long. I then contacted someone who was directly involved in finding the correct color. Glasurit has or will probably take this shade officially. However, the specialists also said that it can be that any vehicle can look different from the paint, even though you have used the same paint. Here is the result:

Oliver,
That looks beautiful! You must be so excited to see it in paint. It looks identical to my color when mine is not on the grass. Super excited to see as you complete the car. What a jewel!!

Thanks. definitely. I have also taken care that the flakes are extremely small. In the past, the metallic paints for early Porsche were produced like this. yes, it seems to be a similar shade as yours. To save money, I did the painting with a friend. we applied 3 coats of clear lacquer to the vehicle, so that you have the chance to polish out any scratches you may have without touching the paint again. The specialists always strive for 200-300 microns of paint thickness, but I did not care. then it is now just 400 microns. so what.
what color is your dashboard, what color is your interior?
Olli

Re: 53 1500S Radium Green
Please do not take the Glasurit radium green they have all the time untill now!!! I saw a spray out example. It appears to be too grey! If it is the new composition – get it.Ross Copeland wrote:Hi Oliver how are you going on getting a correct radium green paint mixed - The Willhoits spray card sample is very different to the Ruetter build sheet . Ive looked thru all the radium green threads here on the forums and i can see vastly differing colours displayed in photos like the Roger Bray pre A and the 51 Bent window coupe below. Im getting Glasurite to mix up theor radium green 510 and maroon 503. With my dash we can see orig maroon paint however it looks almost deep dark brown....v interesting to see if we can color match modern paints to the originalOliver Strobel wrote:Erlkönig Classic tries to recreate Radium Green again with Glasurit. The original paint was done by Lechler. It seems to be very difficult. So you realy can not take the color from the print. Most repainted cars you see in radium green are not correctly.
To get that booklet you have to send them a proof to be the owner of the car. VIN and a few pictures are ok.
Regards R
The color of the split looks funny but has nothing to do with radium green metallic.
