Here's a photo of the Keymer Mancheseter #5 color compared to the original beige corduroy on my late friend Edwin's '53 coupe.

Other suppliers exist. Place Textiles "Theo" corduroy is the same weight and rib spacing as the original stuff too. Not sure what would be a good match for the Porsche beige. Their "Tempest" is pretty darn close for the grey used by Porsche.

Hey James, these are great news!
Ross, I asked Guido Eickholz but they are quiet busy at the moment because of a few events coming. At mid December I know more about the interior hopefully.

I am still in contact with Guido Eickholz from Erlkönig Classic. I will ask him for the best matching interior stuff and can hopefully tell you more about it, tomorrow.

Oliver our cars are identical twins which is very cool. Only small difference I can see is mine left Reutter with a radio aerial noted on build sheet

Guido is an excellent resource . Will be interested to see what he comes up with.

Here I am again. Unfortunately, I have not found out anything about the materials that have to be ordered for the interior. My 356 is also progressing. Most of the metal works are done and the rust protection is applied. The pictures are in poor qualtity. Sorry, but I didn’t take them. Ross, if you leave your email adress at your registry profile I can find out more about your car or just email me.

Okay we are getting to the pointy end of this project. Engine and tranny back home from resto and car prepped for paint.
Ive just sent several massive parts order to some of our vendors.

Couple of Questions:

a) Should I Carpet Floors and tunnel or use rubber mats. (Not sure what was original but Id prefer carpet for insulation)
b)Horns- what is correct for a 53 Pre A?
c)Turbo Rings- yes or no? I understand they were delivered on all Hoffmans USA Deluxe cars like mine- but they are stupidly expensive and hard to find as originals and the repros from what I read have issues regards fitment and quality.
d) I have Tan leather on my seat backs and sides as per the Reutter Build Sheet. Is there a leather number to specify which tan color? The build sheet does not specify

So exciting to see the light at the end of this very long tunnel

The tunnel gets carpet on the back and a rubber mat at the front. The floors get a layer of schutz (undercoat) inside for sound deadening, and then rubber mats sit atop the wooden false floors. The rear rubber mats sit directly on the schutz.

The carpet on the sills gets a thin layer of foam under it. Carpet on the rear heal kick panel gets horse hair behind it. Same with carpet on the rear lower sides. Just reproduce the sound deadening Reutter did in the rest of the car, including 2mm of schutz on the exterior bottom of the car. A layer of carpet on top of the wood floors is going to look wrong and not help.

The '53 USA de Luxe had one horn hooked directly to the battery mounted on the driver side. HO/FSA 6/4. The horn one without the slats/grills.

Yes on the turbo rings. Are your wheels drilled for them? Reproductions can be had for $1000, and they look great. But it's up to you. You can always add them later.

Beige leather will look great. It's important that you make sure that the leather is:
- glossy, not matte
- smooth, not heavily textured, or falsely textured
- goes well with whatever corduroy you pick

The original Roser leather on all 356s was a vegetable-tanned, surface pigmented leather with it's natural grain. Glossy and generally smooth. Most modern leathers look nothing like original Roser leather. Attached is a photo for reference of a '53 USA de Luxe with beige leather/cord and beige carpet. I think the fein licht beige from cabrios.de is probably the carpet you want? Maroon dash to go with the beige leather I suspect, even on the Radium green cars. Though I'm sure your Reutter certificate delineates this.

Very cool!

James you are the MAN! Thankyou for the input which is fantastic. .especially your photo of carpet, cord and leather. My Reutter Build sheet shows color of leather and manufacturer but does not reference the finish. Wonderful.

So a few questions:

A) Is there a vendor selling this type of horn with the solid front/no grills ?
B) The Turbo Rings will look brilliant- but who makes the best repros- I've read some older forum posts that some repro's offered by vendors are not great and don't fit wheels properly.
C) Apart from watching the classifieds - Where can I get a D shaped voltage regulator ( Ive got the big round one on at present)- do any of our vendors offer these?

Julian Hardy might have the horn available. He restores them.

Robert Bröcker has reproduced nice versions of the turbo rings.

TheSamba classifieds is the best place to find a D regulator. Up until late 1953, Porsches used the same electrical system as VWs - same 130 watt generator, same regulator. Be aware that the voltage regulator needs to be matched up to the generator.

Generator RED 130/6 2600 AL16
Regulator RS/G 130/6/11

Porsche and VW stopped using that regulator around the same time in late 1953.

Are these Horns and mounting brackets correct for a 53 car?
Ive compared to the 52 Hella Brochure posted on another thread but these horns have an extra digit (/8) on the model number?
