Ate 4060 and 4061 valves...any information?

#1 Post by Trey Harrison »

Hello everyone
I'm trying to ID a pair of assembled heads and I suspect they are early Super, not finding any info on the Ate 4060 and 4061 valves, are they 8mm stem? No part number on the heads, but here are the marks...can anyone confirm what these are?

4060 and 4061 are 8mm valves. Inlet port shape was only difference between Super and Normal heads AFIK. Photo of inlets?

Look like Super heads, Normal heads have a circular inlet port and Super's have the oval port.

Would you venture to say they are 1952 from the markings?

The "62" marking is the chamber size presumably, and I have never seen markings like the others. I believe the Super head was introduced with the 528 engine in late '52 so heads could be late '52 through '53 or early '54. Some point in '54 they started using 10mm valves and also some point in '54 the casting changed to include the pad for the tooling holes as on 3-pc case heads.

Those look like early 1951-52 heads that have been ported to fit larger intake manifolds. The 528 heads have a similar inlet shape, but the valve guide is shrouded and finned. On the outside of the heads, there should be a some markings

or similar.

And I agree with Alan, definitely 8mm stem valves. You can see that valve guides on the intakes are narrow. The 10mm valve stems started being used sometime in 1953 on the exhaust valves for the Super engines I believe.

I say these heads look early as the mounting surface for the manifolds has a "V" shape and is not flat against the fins.
