Pre A bumpers

#1 Post by Dr Oliver Strobel »

Hi,
can somebody tell me if there is a difference between the Pre A US bumpers from 54/55 and the A US bumpers?
Thanks.
Cheers, Olli

Olli,

If you are referring to the 56/57 T1 A bumpers, they are basically the same as the 54/55 pre-A, except if you have overrider bars, which appeared some time in '56 on US spec cars. In that case, there will be holes for the bars. Also, the decos on pre-As are shorter than later A cars. I'm not exactly sure when this changed but early '56 As still had the shorter decos while T2s had the longer ones.

As mentioned 1953 to 1959 pre A and A bumpers are basically the same. Rears bumpers for OPEN cars are about 1/2-1 inch wider. If restoring a car I always recommend buying the non-welded bumpers so they can be match fit to the car.
