1953 Steering Coupler - Bolt Torque Spec?

#1 Post by David Green » Sun Oct 02, 2016 10:08 pm

I'm deep into my very original 1953 (51015, Aug. 10,1953) coupe preservation project, going through all the systems to make it safe while trying to "doing no harm". I just replaced the steering coupler and can't find the coupler bolt torque spec and don't want to crush the coupler. Advice much appreciated.

David,

For the 14 mm ATF fasteners on the original style rubber coupler 18 - 22 ft. lbs. is sufficient.
A bit tighter is OK if need be to line up the cotter pin hole with the slotted nut.
Install new cotter pins.
