Hello, What is the finish on the large 'pan head' screw that holds the actual seat section to the hinge on a '55? There is normally some evidence remaining but even with close inspection there isn't a hint of what it might have been just rust!
I thought it best to ask the Oracle before I went back to the chromers with the seat back screws I forgot to get done DOH!
Thanks
V

Here's the chromed bolt on a '53 seat, unrestored.

Vincent just an FYI when you install the seat back to the bottom seat. There is a small piece of rubber that gets glued to the metal rest or "stop" to cushion the back of the seat when it is in the reclining position. It will also protect the chrome on your seat from getting scratched up.
Just one of the details that gets overlooked from time to time. Not sure if Stoddard carries that piece or not, I made it out of excess rubber and glued it in.

I don't know if the rubber is the same on a C car as it is on an A.
Here is the small rubber piece I installed on my seats recently.

I wonder if the rubber on the stop was perhaps late-pre-A? I have not seen these on '53 cars. Perhaps they were started between '53 and '55?

Hello & thanks, not that I have seen that many pre As but I haven't seen this on those that I have nor was there any evidence of there having been any rubber stops on ours. However this could be simply absence of evidence & not evidence of absence! I was thinking of putting some form of thin rubbber buffer there simply for protection as I have already made up thin fabric washers to go under this big nut for the same reason. I know it's not original but you can't see it & I hate the idea of spending all this time, effort & money rechroming to have it messed up with circular scratches the first time I tighten the nuts up.
