#1 Post by Gary Cox »

Hi all. What would be the proper distributor, distributor cap configuration for a 1955 speedster 1500, 546/2 produced feb/mar '55?

Thanks Sebastian. I thought that would be the correct distributor but wanted to confirm. Would it also have the brass tag on top of the cap?

Know the school well, although I have girls that attended St. Joseph around the corner.

From Donald Zingg:

"At the end of November 1954, Porsche introduced a new engine crankcase design to replace the VW 2-pc. crankcase. With the introduction of the 3-pc. crankcase, the valve adjustment specs. changed again for the 1300- and 1500-series engines. At that time, the brass plaque was discontinued. A decal showing the new valve adjustment figures was applied to the fan housing."

Also, my next reunion is summer of 2020, I will get in touch to come by and say hi and perhaps buy you a Dixie beer (do they still make that stuff?)

I hope you do look me up and we can get together then, I live not too far from Catholic. Dixie was in and out of financial trouble for decades, went out of business after katrina, Tom Bensen (New Orleans Saints owner) revived it last year. I think they contract brew it, label it Dixie, but they have, had, plans to locate a brewery in New Orleans. Don't know if those plans are still on the table.

As noted above, no brass plaque on the distributor cap for 3-pc. case engines.
