Recreation of the original Phoenix generator Fan belt

#1 Post by Alex Mestas »

I just received my recreation of the Original Phoenix generator fan belt. It looks perfect. Great color and lettering.

I think Paul Hatfield may still have some available. Contact him at 65c356@Comcast.net

Thanks Paul!

I have spent the last few years building a tool kit for my '56 356A piece by piece. After all, now that my car is restored, what are you supposed to do next? Well yeah, I can think of several answers, such as restore another one, drive around in the one you have, etc.! I dreamed up the idea of assembling a tool kit that went with our '56 A. That kept me busy and allowed me to continue to talk to like minded individuals. I bought a few tools and often a short time later found out that they were the wrong age and style for our '56 car. After some more research, I bought some "right" tools. Sometimes the "right" tools came on the second or third try! After heightened frustration while searching, I made a short screwdriver for myself and made a few more, to sell to others.
After all the tools were assembled in my tool kit, I thought to myself, where am I going to find a belt? Surprisingly, I did find an original one. Later, I found out it was a newer then what belonged in my car! Then I heard about Paul Hatfield's belt logo reproduction efforts! Many of us in the 356 hobby have trained ourselves to be cautious of products on the reproduction market. However, the logo that Paul prints, on the quality German belts that he sells, is first rate! If you need a belt for either your engine or your tool kit, you will not be disappointed!

Thanks guys! A whole lot of effort went into getting the artwork as close to the original as possible. The Continental ones sold out super fast. I will again say that there were a lot of different variations of the Continental belt over time, but the one I chose to replicate is shown in the photo below. I think we got very close!

Can now do the artwork for Pre-A belts on correct belt size of 13 x 850 for the two piece case engines. Belts are smooth, not cogged type. Photos of two different types of artwork are also shown in postings in the Pre-A Forum.
Also, as an aside, I have also made some correct artwork for early 911 Porsche's.
