Precision Matters improved product, lower prices
Several customers requested an improved magnet on the 616 Sump Plate and I was never thrilled with the existing part. A long search finally turned up a neodymium ('rare-earth') ring magnet which will fit without other modifications. And that sucker is STRONG, at least 12 times stronger than the old, ceramic part; there is no chance a ferrous particle will make it into the oil pump pickup guarded by that piece of technology.
Effective today, all 616 Sump Plates will be fitted with that magnet, with both versions seeing a $5.30 increase in price.
Now we have two price decreases:
Precision Matters Push Rod Tubes now sell for $196.80/set of 8, formerly $247.00, a $50 savings.
Precision Matters Adapter Levers have been re-priced from $97/set to $68.80, a reduction of nearly 33%.
We pass on savings where we find them. More improvements in the works, thanks for your continued support...

Ron,
Will the new magnets retrofit the old plates? If so what would the cost be?
Thanks!

Don

Ron
I have one of your plates on my car and it is time to do an oil change. My question is "Do you replace the copper washer on the drain plug each time? Where do you get new washers? What size? Also how tight should the plug be tightened to?
Thanks for your efforts to make owning a 356 a fun experience!

Don, yes they will. As soon as I figure out how to ship them in a box that doesn't ship for more than the parts.DonCichocki wrote:Ron,

Put one of those in an envelop, give it to the shipper, and it'll end up stuck to the truck someplace and you'll never get it.

Pat, replace 'em when they leak, or you can anneal yours; http://www.amazon.com/22mm-Aluminum-Cru ... B002A31UOK ; the current ones are alum, 1.35mm thick, 22.3mm ID, 28mm OD.; don't have a torque spec, but those are pretty durable threads; thanks for buying Pre Mat parts.Pat Daily wrote:Ron

Re: Precision Matters improved product, lower prices
Thanks for the info on the seal, Ron. I've thought about getting a spare or two for mine.
Another question. I have one of the Mainely sump plates that I bought earlier from them. I'm wondering if I can carefully do the mod that you have incorporated to drain the last bit of oil?
Understand the magnet shipping problem. Had a similar situation when I developed a penetrating fluid that was so good I couldn't find anything to ship it in......
Cheers,
Wes

Don,
I'll post a note here when they're available. Busy now; at least a couple of weeks off.
Wes,
You can just drill some holes along the axis shown in the red line here: Start from the bottom and make sure you leave at least a thread below the hole. You can get in from the top side with a Dremel to make it truly flush if it isn't.
I'm stealing the story about the penetrate (with credit).

Thanks Ron. I'll do that mod when I get to my drill press at the cabin next week.
Don't worry about giving credit. It's in the public domain........

Re: Precision Matters improved product, lower prices
Actually a good idea Dennis. When you screw the plug back in you want a full circle of thread to start it. I'm shooting for two threads below the hole (or maybe that'll be twice as funny 8) ). Anyway it's a good modification for an equally good product. Gone are the days of warped sump plates.
Cheers,
