NPR Pistons and Cylinders

#1 Post by michael nelson »

Can another run be made by NPR for their Pistons and Cylinders?
I've heard good and bad about the substitutes.
Also all the prices have skyrocketed on NOS-NPRs

Michael,
NPRs were really neat in the '70s and '80s. Now we have parts we couldn't dream of having then, and the NPR clones even have machined domes now; hot stuff!
Seriously, NPRs were workable and dirt cheap compared to the factory parts, but they really needed checking and usually some work to get them usable. Plus, those slugs were HEAVY.
All the AA parts I've seen are at least as good, and we'd have been in heaven if we had LN cylinders and JE pistons available.

Michael,
You might want to look into Shasta Design piston / cylinder combo.

I would definitely look at a JE piston if you plan on building an engine that will be run to 6000+ RPM. Forged pistons are superior in a number of respects.
