My lead photo does not expand to full size when I click it.

#1 Post by Donald Pirch » Sat Feb 03, 2018 2:14 pm

:?:
The photos in my ad are not shown full size when I click on the photo to expand it to full size. I've loaded the photos 3x and the problem continues so that the viewer can see the entire screwdriver after they click on the lead photo. What's wrong here?

And I was wondering, all the pictures in ads show OK for me, but none of them enlarge when you click on them anymore. Is that a new upgrade?

Yes, the way I understand it is the enlargement feature went away, but in its place came pictures that are larger to begin with than before plus a carousel, or slideshow feature.

Maybe I am resistant to change, but I thought the previous system was better. The slideshow is OK but losing the enlargement is clearly worse.

I agree with Martin. The resolution now really isn't adequate to show any detail. I'm thinking of adding links to photos posted elsewhere for clarity. IMO, the previous setup was better.

I also think the old system was better so you could see the complete photo and more detail.

Bruce, I tried that once because I wanted to use more pictures than the site lets us put in there and it was moved to “linked ads”. When people use the search filter they never filter to the linked ads (would you?). Makes it kind of a catch-22, perhaps they could eliminate that section to make the classifieds a little more user friendly.

Or if it isn't tied into a bunch of other stuff, change it back to the old system. With our average age, lots of us want big pictures. (googly eyes)

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Agree with Martin et. al. Go back to the ability to enlarge so you an see some serious detail if need.

I agree the old format worked well. There is not enough detail that is shown in the reduced photos. Having the ability to enlarge them shows the "Big Picture" no pun intended of possible defects or confirming the quality of what could be a wise purchase or not. I also do not like the carousel effect because it forces you to go through all of the pics when only a few may be necessary to determine what is of value in making the purchasing decision. PLEASE bring back the old version!

The new format has altered the appearance of the photos in my ads. For example, the top photo is what used to be shown in my speaker fabric ad. The bottom photo is now what that photo looks like. Please fix.

The resolution of this photo I posted in the classifieds is now about 10% of the original as uploaded. Most of the detail is lost.

It seems that something similar to this happened in Russia just 100 years ago. To the barricades!

Hi Paul / everyone. Your don't fix it assertion works fine from a singular perspective. You have not been privy to the years of complaints I have fielded(far more than than the posts in this thread) over the old way the photos displayed. People did not like having to open individual windows and then close them again. If I had a dollar for every time I have heard "on other websites...."
You guys need to be cognizant of the fact that me and the other Trustees are often in an impossible conundrum, particularly with the website. Members "A,B,& C" complain about an aspect and if we do not do anything to change it we are not meeting the needs of membership, and as illustrated in this thread we do make a change and members "D,E & F" like it the way it was before and we are trying to pull the rug out. At a recent open meeting we we fielded complaints about the website for a solid 15 minutes and were ultimately told that we should have "the best" website and that is what several in attendance wanted. Great, what does that mean and how much will it cost? We are trying to have a site that appeals to the majority of the membership without also breaking the bank.

I recognize there are some size/res issues in the display now and will look into having this improved. This is also illustrative of the fact that website function is a tangled web. What may be perceived as simple fix often affects other functions that then must be addressed.

Curt

Hi Curt: OK, OK, the troops should put away the pitchforks and torches and stand down for now since you are looking into improving the display issues. Interesting to hear that there was so much grumbling at the recent open meeting. Don't remember seeing complaints/dissatisfaction re: same on the Forum. Guess I missed it. Anyway, good luck in your task. I don't envy you. It's all black box to me and I'm sure it's a real chore.
