The person that placed the ad should have hit the "close" button once the item was no longer for sale.

When replying to an add we also need a `Send to self Button`

GREAT idea Mike. I have sent several emails through the classifieds and never heard back so I have no idea if the seller just did not reply because the item sold, or if they never received my email at all.....

It is not the 1st time I have mention it

I personaly think that the 1st contact is important - what you say is part of the contract with the seller

Currently, I cut and paste what I have said when replying to an add
However, adding that button is common and simple exersise for a Web Techi. and should have been there from day 1

End of rant

Thanks for the input - I've brought this to the attention of the Classified Moderator.

Doesn't seem to have done any good. Still stuff on there from Feb 5, 2014.

Hi Vic

Please clarify your suggestion. Are you saying we should have a rule that ads can only run/ be renewed for a year? This would be difficult to police as all someone would have to do is re-post the ad rather than renewing it and it will show up with a new start date.

Curt

I think the old ads are useful. You can scan them to see the sales prices for items you may be looking for, and if there are many ads for similar items in the past, it can be a hint as to the availability of the part, or date code numbers you are looking for (or want to sell yourself). If an ad is very old, most people know the item is likely sold. Unless it is a high-dollar rare part, or the seller's price is pie-in-the-sky. Just my two cents. I do use the old ads as a resource though. Sometimes just for the photos of original parts.

Guys

Everything that is up should be for sale unless it is marked pending or sold. People are not very vigilant about removing ads on sold items, but all ads must be renewed every 2 months. I doubt people are renewing ads on items that are sold when they get the renewal notice. If an ad is not renewed by the poster it is automatically removed.

Hi Vince,

What you will see is actually the asking price and not the final selling price which is never disclosed.

One way to accomplish this is to do a search on eBay and then click on "sold listings" to the left hand side of the screen. That will give you the final price of those items over the last month or so. While not 100% accurate -perhaps some items never get paid for by the "buyer"--it is the best resource out there for what things are selling for.

Sebastian, yes I know that...have been on ebay since 1999. My point was that the entire Registry is a resource. And, these classified postings are another source of data. Yes, asking prices, not selling prices. But other data as well. And that has proven valuable to more than just myself.

Hi Vince,

That is great to know you were familiar with the "sold listings" feature.

One thing to keep in mind in the forum is that replies, though perhaps addressed to you, are also meant for everyone else's benefit. My guess is that not everyone knows about the "sold listings" feature as you did, which does in fact make the Registry forum a great resource as you so rightly stated.

Vic

Ads are designed to run for 60 and must be renewed by the author if the item is still for sale or wanted after the 60 days pass. If the author does not elect to renew his/her ad it will be closed after the 60 days. Therefore all ads in the classifieds should be active with the exception of some items that may have been sold or found and simply haven’t been closed. By design this allows members to simply renew their ad instead of creating a new one.

Frank
