My friend, Roy Mawbey, a regular contributor here on the Forum until the recent member only access policy, has brought it to my attention that the tech info articles are no longer available to non members as they were, under the resources tab on the home page.

Is this a glitch caused by the recent software update, or a policy decision made by the trustees ?

Regards, Mike

There is no listing under the "resources" tab, and that is the same for members or not. The tech articles can be accessed (members or not) by going to the home page and clicking on the tech articles scroll on the banner and clicking on "here". So I think this is just something that got left off on the changeover because the text still indicates to go to the "resources" tab.

Either that or it is a vast hidden conspiracy of alien beings to take over the Registry... one page at a time. :)

Really ?

Aliens interference or not, I get a tech articles listing under the resources tab... just like it ever was.

Are you perhaps on a different membership package to me Sterling ?

'Registry Lite' ?

Mike.

OK, now I am getting it when I am logged in, and not when I am not logged in.

It appears to me Roy is correct. Looks like those menu items have been set to be viewable by Registered Members only.

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. The Webmaster has been informed and requested to report back regarding this case. Will close the loop when all the facts are understood.
Best regards,

Mike: As Sterling indicates, the Tech Articles are accessible by all through the scrolling area that’s in the middle of the Home page directly under the big picture that changes each month. You are also correct in that the tech articles are not accessible through the ‘Resources’ tab for non-members. The general philosophy of what should be accessible to non-members has been discussed at length in past posts in 356Talk.
Here’s a brief summary of what is accessible to non-members. Note – this list is not all-inclusive and there may be other areas that I have not addressed:
Classifieds – Yes – (Read only – must log in, i.e. be a member, to post or reply)
356 Registry Goodie Store – Yes
Event Calendar – Yes – (Read only)
356 Talk – Yes – (Read only – must log in, i.e. be a member, to post or reply)
Online Magazine Articles – there is a small sample of past articles
Tech Articles – Yes, but access is through the scroll area and not in ‘Resources’ area
Magazine Archives – No – according to the Webmaster, this is a seldom-used feature
VIN Database – No
Traveler Assist Network – No

As you can see, there is a goodly amount of information available to non-members.
Your inquiry, however, has stimulated a discussion among the Trustees with the result that a comprehensive list will be published of accesses for members and non-members.
Please also consider that to become a member is $35US per year, which is very modest, and it is the dues of members that makes possible the 356 Registry site (including 356Talk), the magazine (including postage in the US), the ongoing development of new features in the Web site and forums, and covers the myriad of costs associated with running the club.
Best Regards,
Greg
