Dates on Classified entries

#1 Post by James Learmonth » Tue Jul 03, 2018 11:45 am

Is it just me? The dates for classified entries are no longer sequential. you have to look though last week, last month, and maybe last year. Should I throw my old computer out or is it something on your end?

James, it did the same thing with me, then I clicked on ‘Date” at the top. It then sorted oldest first, then I clicked again and it sorted newest first and was as it should be. Try it and see if thst works.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could delete our old ads?

Wouldn't it be nice to dump February 2014? TWENTY-FOURTEEN!

I have reported the non-sequential ad date issue to the site admins. This has cropped up a couple of times over the years.
Regarding old classified ads, once an ad reaches its expiration date - maybe two months after creation - the originator has a couple of options after receiving a system email that the ad has expired. One is to do nothing, and the ad is no longer visible to members, however, the ad is still visible in the creator's list of ads. This is done, in my understanding, if there is a dispute that needs to be resolved after the sale, so that the ad can be referenced by the poster and the Classifieds moderator.

The second option available to the ad creator is to renew the ad. If you're seeing an ad with a 2014 date, the creator has renewed the ad about 24 times ….. Always hopeful, I suppose.
Renewing an ad does not update the original posting date nor does it move the ad to the top of the pile.

Greg,

So an ad older than two months that is still visible to the members has been renewed by the lister? Then we could assume the part is still available if they are required to renew it every two months. Is this correct?

Greg, how about a different approach? Why not have a separate file on the system for deleted classifieds? Just add an option called "delete" and when used that classified ad is sent to a file where admin has access to it. The way it is now sold items and active items are mixed together, very annoying. Very untidy, unbefitting of the well organized, somewhat anal, German car devote.

Happy 4th and a big thank you to the founders; of the USA, not Vic. :D

Sebastian - short answer is yes, but I'm not sure of the length of time an ad stays active. I usually have an ad running but it expired and I can't check their duration - it's either 2, 3 or 4 months.
Cliff - I believe we are somewhat limited by what the phpBB software allows ...
Regarding sold items still being advertised, that is the responsibility of the seller to close the ad, which is a very simple 2 step process.
