' like the fact that you realize your dreams.

Do you think it'll make a difference or is it simply for the looks?

I always thought the engine grille had as much to do with exhausting hot air from the top of the engine compartment as it did with bringing air in.
So, wouldn't turning the grille into a "scoop" defeat that purpose?
It does look cool, though. Even if the unintended consequence might not be... "cool." :?

The air goes in the top and is blown out under the car(cooling sys), into cockpit for heat(cooling sys), or out the tailpipes(induction sys). It looks like the scoop will restrict about 80% of the air to the engine. I have seen a vintage racing photo of a coupe with a MUCH larger version of the same thing.

I like the look of it, but my question isn't about functionality.

I see you have your welds on the side, what is the plan for them? Will there be a small lip all the way around? (I've always wondered about welds on the outside like this, what do people do with them?)

The 90 degree angle seems impossible to archive is basically what I'm wondering about (between the new scoop and the decklid).

Keep us updated! I love 'build' threads :)

It would be interesting to see what the airflow looks like going across the deck lid. Obviously, there is air coming in through the grill(s) but the question is from what angle. Now, if you knew for sure there was sufficient airflow coming down the decklid and you were capturing it with the scoop, great! If not, you could always drop on a whale tail.

That said, I like the look. Let us know how it works.

It looks like you've effectively taken your air intake from about 200 square inches down to about 20. I'm not an engineer, but that thing is going to be hot at low speeds and the fan is going to be fighting the carbs for air at high RPM. You could always cut holes in the engine compartment and duct cool air in that way. I hope that was JB weld...

That being said, whats with factory Carerra louvers that are punched up and face down? Wouldn't this just cause a vacuum in the engine compartment instead of letting air in?

i just have a comment on the effectiveness of the cooling system and intake grilles. i have a '64 C coupe with twin grilles. once upon a time i took a friend along on a ride in the country. the friend had some sunflower seeds which were eaten along the way. the shells were discarded out the window. the next time i went to check my oil i found a fair percentage of those shells ended up in the engine compartment. don't know if many made it into the fan.
be carful what you throw out the window at highway speeds.

The "99356"

The scoop is one thing, but how about adding a tail? I wonder what the air flow would be with a full tail on the back. If there were ever a 993 and 356 cross... it might look something like this.

Just a bit of Photoshop fun -- enjoy.
