Upper engine bolt mod

Pulled a friends 62B motor for a clutch change yesterday. The upper bolts were packed with 25 years of oil condensate and grease. They gave me the me the most trouble accessing them from below, I have ever had on over 50 years of these tubs.. After we got the engine out we modified the bolt heads with a roll pin as below so they won't spin. Just a blind hole and a pressed in pin. I know there is several ways to modify the bolts, but this was pretty simple and no welding. A socket will still grip the head but not required any more. If you have a motor out I highly recommend this mod so when you get old you can remove all four nuts from the schrod side.

Ab Tiederman sold these for many years.

I have them on my engine.

Not as classy, but wrapping a small stainless steel hose clamp around the flats works just fine, with the adjustment screw head preventing bolt rotation.

Careful Dave......they'll think we're both "shade tree" mechanics. Works though.
