‘58 Outlaw
All
I recently completed an Outlaw project. I have had the car for about 17 yrs and it has always been an Outlaw as the starting point was a bit of a mess. After enjoying the car through many DE events, a cross country trip by my sons and many excursions with my wife, it was time for a re-do. The car was stripped which revealed much more tin worm that expected. Many new panels from our great vendors were put in over a 2 yr period. It was then painted a “close to correct” Porsche GT Silver. In 1958 it was delivered in silver/red.

Re: ‘58 Outlaw
A few more details. An Outlaw is all about the details as you get to do what you want.
- Wheels are 944 Spares painted satin black. 185/60 tires
- Mirrors are Raydot held in place with magnets. No holes drilled
- Seats are combo of handmade bomber shells with lots of copper rivets, lightening holes and headrests with speedster inserts. Building them sort of scratched the OCD itch.
- Dash has an Outlaw clock. Heuer Super Autavia face mounted on Swiss pocket chronograph
- Over-engineered the dome lights to match the seats
- 741 transmission with 644 nose, Ken Daugherty Gmund shift tower
- LED lights all around, including rear third brake/signal
- Engine currently 1720 616/36 but will move my 1883 twin plug from the 912 this winter
It was a ton of fun to build, now time to drive!

Mark,
Looks good!
How did you mount the clock on the dash?

Great look on the car. I’m curious about the LEDs. Is your car a 6 volt and did you get 6 volt LED headlights? How do they work and where did you get the rear ones?

Rudy
Car was upgraded to 12v some years ago. During the re-build I sourced LED headlights from Classico Wheels and the tail lights are Cu Layer, Jim Franzen.
Both are suppliers with posts on 356 Registry and both offer 6v and 12v versions for their products. Since the car is 12v, sourcing the other lights was pretty easy.
Hope this helps
