Outlaw build in New Zealand

#1 Post by Angus Cooper » Thu Oct 27, 2016 4:58 pm

We are one year or so into an Outlaw build here in New Zealand. The car is essentially a copy of two of Rod Emory's cars blended into one project. I would have loved an Emory car but couldn't afford the folding $$$, so in typical New Zealand fashion we thought we'd 'give it a crack' and build one down here.

Started with a 1963 356B T6 Coupe that was found under a mango tree in Hawaii, purchased and rescued the car by good friends up there. The work from there has been extensive converting the car into a Cabriolet and then some. Think the pictures tell the story but 1300 hours of panel work to date.

The car will run original 356 engine, transmission (12 bolt) and suspension. However have gone early 911 rack & pinion steering for a giggle :D The engine will be a John Willhoit 2132cc mated to a fully rebuilt 741 transmission. Car has been converted from LHD to RHD, interior will be 944 seats cut down and built similar to early 911 seats. The leather will be Spinny Beck the same as the Singer Porchse.

Any questions let me know guys. Build will hopefully be finished in 6-8 months.

Pictures upside down for some reason? Truely living in a land downunder :P

When you click on them they come up the right way for some reason?

Front end restyling, headlights cut out and laid back and down. Another of the many Rod Emory tricks we copied, however working out how he does his tricks is bloody difficult at times!

Some of the interior work underway. We are chopping the factory hardtop by an inch or so, because of this we have to mount the seats to the floor as I'm 6'2". This meant cutting the tunnel down and moving the gear shifter back a ways to get the right driving position. Steering wheel is also extended out 50mm towards the drivers, peddles in their standard location. Spinny Beck leather and Recaro seat badges, those badges are almost impossible to find!

How did you widen the front track?

We have just used 911 spacers, they will actually need to milled back a little as they are a bit aggressive at present.

Here's a better photo of width of the front track relative to the guard.
