Thanks Scott and Scott for your kind words, the seats are actually pretty comfy too. To make the mounting bracket one just sticks the 914 bracket on an existing mount in the car...I happened to use a Recaro mount that I had on hand from using some 911 seats in the car previously. I didn't need the tilt feature the 914 bracket used, so eliminated it.
My friend who did the upholstery had a time with putting the caning on the back. It comes in a roll, and getting it to lay flat was the problem He tried steaming it, wetting it, putting weights on it rolled out flat, all of which helped enough that he could finally get it on the backs.
He said he got the idea from similar seats he saw in a Speedster back in the '70s, and always wanted to do it.
