isn't there a video from Ray Leno's garage with an 1959 A sunroof 356 Coupe, 911 rear suspension and a 914 motor modified by Fat motors (2.6 ltr 200hp out of original 2.0 ltr.) made by Emory ...
I would love to get a 914 motor inside our 356 BT5 ....

I fitted a motor built by Bernie Bergmann into my roadster outlaw that is in the forum site a couple of years ago. It's 2.4 upright fan and flys. I think it's a great option for an outlaw tho the purist would shudder. If it's an outlaws it's you that makes the call Stewart webster

I put one in my '64 Type II. A perfect 150 HP Outlaw motor on the cheap.

This is a very interesting thread. Hope you get more responses to it. I certainly wouldn't convert a numbers-matching car to run a 914 engine, but if I had a 356, sans engine, I would love to do this conversion on it.

Here is the Type IV in my '63 Splitty Type II. Plenty of power, sounds great. We built it here, $25/35K.

I have a Raby upright shroud on my 2314 Type IV.. With the type cooler set up I'm having trouble with the hex bar linkage and don't see how its possible to fit the top left engine/trans bolt. Offset cooler ties up that space. Any body out there with the same setup that can help? thanks in advance.

I think some of the later VWs had a threaded insert pressed into the top left hole, and then the bolt is installed from the front by the clutch lever. Not so easy, but not impossible.

Martin is correct, I just did this job on a type 1 I've been working on. From '71, the dual port engine had the offset oil cool and it took up all the room to get your hand in on the left side for the top nut. A 10mm nut-sert was pressed into the case and one has to go under the car with a bolt - a long extension and a 17mm wobble socket makes it pretty easy to do.

Wondering if anyone out there has skirted their front wheels. I have huge flairs and was wondering if the stock 165/80 tires/wheels would not rub.

Sorry for putting the above under the Type 4 heading. Thought I was starting a new thread. Still working on linkage and exhaust systems for my 2314 Type 4.

Michael - which fan housing are you using? It looks like the stock oil cooler is used.
Also, what kind of FI are you using? Looks like a cool set up.
