Now arrived in UK and waiting to be started up.....will need to replace petcock , not sure if it leaked before tank was drained but after 8 weeks at sea , when petrol was added to tank it started to leak - maybe the seals dried out ? Will update .

Congrats on the car. Very tasteful in appearance and nice colour combination. What are the colour names for the ext/int. pray tell?

Best,

Hi Ronald , sorry for the delay in replying , just getting over a Brit winning at Augusta ;)

the exterior is a Porsche 1955 colour - Speedster Blue

the previous owner did the paint , he also said the interior was 'yellow' - it is all leather and he chose the colour . Exterior and interior were done around 1997 so pretty good for a near 20 year old paint job

Hi Conrad , yes I guess '55 Continentals are rare anyway , and this one was converted to an Outlaw which makes it even rarer .

I wanted 'the look' of an early bent windscreen car with slim bumpers and pure shape , minimalist external fitments to spoil either aerodynamics or aesthetics . I also did not want to pay crazy money , so anything the investors would shy away from was good for me !

This particular car had originally been made more outlaw with GT style wing mounted mirror ( almost useless in traffic) and fill thru the hood petrol cap , speedster style steel bucket seats ,then refashioned some 10 years ago with a definitely non outlaw interior with original instruments on dash , pneumatic Beck fuel gauge and pneumatic windscreen wash pump , full leather interior original style fat armchair seats and wood floors rubber mats , Bedford cloth roof-lining . It did retain the stinger style final exhaust fitment however and non -original clap hands wipers from '53 rather than parallel wipers from '55.

So from the drivers seat it feels like you are in period . From outside the 15 inch disc braked wheels and lowered stance give the game away. The ride is a bit harsh , that is the compromise for 'the look' !

If you put it back in 1950s traffic it would look pretty alien see below !

John,

Beautiful car!

I like your choice of number plate for the front.
I am guessing it is a decal.

Can I ask who produced it.

Do you have one on the rear?

That is interesting Bob ! The car left the US in early 1997 having been sold on by 'Made By Hand Inc' FL as a restoration project

Re UK vinyl number plates , they were supplied by Frampton's , here is rear plate

Thanks John,

The plates look well, I especially like the look of the smaller front one.

I have considered the use of a dealer plate surround and having a UK metal plate fit into this.

However it was mentioned to me that this may not be an option in the UK.
