A million years ago my brother sent me a set of wheels off his 63 coupe. The are Drum Brake Fuchs looking cast made by AWE 5.5X15 (see photos). Not having a need for them, I just left them in the cardboard shipping boxes unopened. Now after many moves I can not find the lug nuts for them.
The face of the wheel looks like the lugs are flat or had a washer?? There is no taper or radius The Hole is 17.5mm and the washer face is 29mm. Did that have an insert to a sleeve under the flat?
Does anyone have a set of these wheels or a lug nut they could photo for me.
Thanks
John

Wheels like that take a lug nut that has a straight shank that fits inside the hole in the wheel and a washer that fits under the hex head of the nut. Many speed shop wheels were made that way in the '60s and '70s. Look on the Summit racing website or Empi or some other VW hot rod supplier site.

Re: AWE Fuchs for drum breakes
Well, no hill for a climber. Found some assorted shank nuts in the old stuff bin, at the local Les Schawb tires with the correct thread. But shanks were 0.125 too large, and 0.250 - 0.750 too long.
Made a tool, cut them down shorten them to match the wheels. Presto solved. They are a pain to put on though. I made them 0.0025 undersized from the wheel hole. Getting the started with no tolerance is like Chinese Arithmetic, you can do it, it's just HARD. After they are all 1/2 way tight there in no play, finger tight works with no wobble. Probably much closer tolerance than the drum and wheel specs. These fit so well I would be afraid to use an impact wrench.
Thanks for all the help, anyone have a 24mm Hazet lug wrench in for my spare tire travel toolkit?.

put a dab of anti-seeze on the shank before you put it through the lug hole, it will help with removal in the future.

Powder coated the nuts to match the car, did the centers. The front center won't clear the bearing caps so I will need make a ring to get clearance. This winter I will change the wheel black, with the nut color, But they have new rubber and ready for the Nov 1 autocross.
