Built an engine >1600
Hey guys,
as both of our cars still have the original engines (BT5 60 hp and C 75 hp) and we still have two spare engines we are wondering what is the best engine block base (1600 a serie, b serie or c serie, 60 hp, 75hp or 90 hp), to go a little bit hotter.
We guess out here is enough experience with engine blocks and hp's (1720 ccm, 1800ccm, 1900 ccm or even more?).
we are curious to hear from the experienced once ...
cheers Helge & Bjørn

Hello Helge. For a "little bit" more power any large oil pump case is fine. For major power increases you should use the late B, C, 912 case that is the strongest of all.

C engine cases will have the 616/15 and 616/16 (SC)
912 will have 616/36 ('65-'67), 616/39 ('68), 616/40 ('69)
I need help on the B cases ...
These numbers are stamped on the right-side case half just visible in front of the fan housing.

Re: Built an engine >1600
Our choice of engine cases is the 912 case. It started in the spring of 1963. The distinguishing characteristic is that in front (toward) the flywheel there will NOT! be a triangular pedestal that is case in front of the oil cooler. The oil pick up line to the oil pump will be 14 mm.
You should carefully read John Wilhoite material on engine building. Plan on new everything including the heads and a line bore for the crank and the camshaft. We use a 8 pound flywheel. Building this engine usually runs in the 25K US $ range.
Plan on a one year project. al

Re: Built an engine >1600
The reason we do not do that is because the engines with fuel injection are DYNO tuned. If you were to walk in the front door I will be glad to show you one of the situations Porsche removed from the 1958 engines.
Putting stuff on the engine so that it functions correctly is a difficult time consuming process. *** Guess which one of the major errors that revealed itself on the 1958 engines that is still with us.*** al
