Fibersteel GT seats

#1 Post by HANS ABRAHAMS »

Greetings gentleman,

I was wondering if anyone has had experience with Fibersteel GT seats. I am considering ordering a set in red with tan corduory inserts for my 63B. Any comments on quality and installation would be most appreciated. The car has come along very nicely and the seats will be the finishing interior touch.

Kindest regards,
Hans

Hans,

Congrats, your car looks great!

I have the Fibersteel seat on the driver's side and love it. After the upholstery goes on, you cannot tell the difference.

Russ is a great guy to work with too.

Here are images of my coupe done in a similar style to yours:

They are heavy but the quality is first rate. They are very strong and do not flex. The mounts are superb. Upholstry is first rate. Available in GT and Speedster widths.

Hi guys,
Thank you so much for the information and the exquisite pictures. The seats and the cars really look stunning! I will give them a call to proceed. The seats currently in the car came with the car on purchase and are not to my liking aesthetically though very comfortable.

Kindest regards,

I have Fibersteel seats in my '63 daily driver, '59 and Type II Transporter. Russ R. does a wonderful job, and I suggest his aluminum seat frames. They fit perfectly.

The Fibersteel seats are very, very heavy. This, of course, negates much of the reason for them in the first place. Over the years there have been several makers of fiberglass reproductions. I have a nice lightweight one in my Lotus Elite-fiberglass car, fiberglass seat. But I don't know of a current maker. I would favor one of the steel reproductions these days.

Be sure to find out the width and make sure that you will fit in the seat before you make your purchase. Did a rally in a 911S with sport seats that a friend of mine had and could not wait to get out of them as they were WAY to narrow, they fit fine initially but after a few hours OMG, killed my hips. Saw some really nice seats at the Porsche Parade in Salt Lake City two years ago, but they were all too narrow, they needed to add about 4 inches to the center, people were smaller 50 years ago, or at least I was!

I am a big fatty and I fit well enough for long distance in both stock original Speedster seats and Fibersteel GT seats. We all vary as to where our girth is located so it would be smart to try to "try one on" before buying.

Hello guys,
Thank you so much for the advice. I have tried the seats in my friend's 58 speedster and fit easily so the GT seats should not present a problem.
Jim, do you have corduroy inserts in your seats? How long did it take to obtain them once ordered?

Regards,
Hans

I have corduroy inserts in my '63 (Red) but not in the '59 which we keep in Germany. Call Russ at Fibersteel about timing. I think he can upholstery them as well.
