Hi,
I am considering installing a set of after market fiberglass speedster style seats in my 1959 356A coupe.
Could any one give me there suggestions, advice and/or experiences for such a project.
Thanks

Neville,
I have just completed installing Fibersteel speedster seats on Fibersteel GT seat bases in my A cab. No problems and very good quality parts. Got to www.fibersteel.com see what they have, then call Russ to talk about shipping etc. You can see photos of my seats over in the project section under "Restoring 151489", probably on page 12 or 13.

I have bought two pair of Fibersteel GT(wider than Speedster) seats and they are superb. Russ also does upholstery to perfection. Good people.
Also, some information I hope you never confirm...Fibersteel seats do not break when a car rams your stopped car in the rear going 70 mph! They stayed put and the brackets remained undamaged. My wife and I walked away with no more then aches and pains for a few weeks. I am glad we were not in our Speedster with original seats and wood frames.

Bill & CJ
Thanks for the responses. I'll check out what Fibersteel have to offer.
I have also seen some fiberglass seats for sale on ebay from Rennspeed. Does anyone have any comments about these seats?
Thanks

Re: Speedster Seats into a 356A Coupe
Can someone post how and what frames they used to install the Speedster seats with? I am looking at a use pair of fiberglass seats, but they do not come with mounting hardware. Seller says to use Speedster type mounts with tilt. Do the tilt mechs have a locking provision to keep them from flipping forward?

Re: Speedster Seats into a 356A Coupe
I used the Fibersteel GT seat bases in my A cab. Not cheap, but came complete with the upper seat rails and fore/aft adjusters. Simple to install. 4 screws to bolt the seats to the frames. Remove original seats, slide in Speedster seats. Done. If memory serves the pair of GT frames with upper rails was in the $650 range 2 years ago plus shipping. Maybe 60% of that if you got the bases only without the upper seat rails.
They flip forward, but if you are sitting in them they do not flip forward . Sort of like the driver's seat back not having a catch on the normal seats.

Re: Speedster Seats into a 356A Coupe
Bill, can you post a pic of the brackets? Are the mounts something that I could fabricate? I have a pair of used seats avaiable for $800.00. Not sure if I should pull the trigger? They are tan leather, unknown brand.Bill Sargent wrote:I used the Fibersteel GT seat bases in my A cab. Not cheap, but came complete with the upper seat rails and fore/aft adjusters. I like the look of speedsterish seats in an A. I made my own for under $800 and Like them ALOT. Here is one pic, but go to the link and you can see exactly how it was done.
