Bill, do you mean Apal? Rusty Tubs in Georgia had one for sale, and another was in SoCal.

Search the web, there's an active club in Europe... Apal still makes 356 replicas IIRC.

Good luck...

Russell, That's not the one that I had in mind but thank you very much, that's interesting.Bill L.

Jacques, I would be interested in the one that Al Lager has commisioned. I think the one that I was looking for may have been built in Australia. Thanks and regards, Bill L.

The car Al Lager had commissioned is now complete and running. Go to www.tinelement.com or this link on the site: http://www.tinelement.com/Site/Projects ... Clone.html.

They have an extensive set of photos of the build of the Abarth body on a resurected 356B chassie. Motor was done by Gary Okoren in Denver. It involved a new from scratch 3rd piece for the push rod motor that eliminated the #4 main bearing so the nose of the crank could drive a 90 degree V drive and twin distributors. Quite a creation.

No, not the one in question. Pick up the current issue of excelence. There is a write up on it. Also a write up on Seinfelds latest spyder and a speedster outlaw. Great issue.

Jeff,
It's kind of hard to tell if that's the car from the photo. That's a GREAT picture of the tree but it's hard to see details of the car! Do you have any close-ups of the front or back (of the car?). Thanks a lot for your response.

@Jim - I've seen that issue - that's the first publicity I've seen on that car and I think the article mentioned that it was just completed so I don't think it would've been for sale a year ago. I think Bill is looking for one from a few years back. This current one is a great issue of the mag though. I liked the write-up on Seinfeld's 550.

@Bill - these are a couple of the photos that were used when advertising the car for sale.

I see it has euro plates, wasn't that outlaw built by a guy in Texas? I seem to remember a write up on this car somewhere also.

Hi Jacques, et al,
Al Lager's Abarth replica you are talking about was made from measurements we took off of a real Abarth about two years ago.
Zillions of measurements, photos and profiles taken and transferred onto patterns. A 356 B chassis was completely rebuilt, spot welds replaced by full length welds, rusty spots replaced by new metal, etc. The chassis was better than new before work on the aluminum body was started.
The body is all aluminum. Currently in its bare, unpainted state.
Photos are indeed shown on TinElements website. And, there is an article on the car in the current "Excellence" magazine.
The car was completed and put on the road last August.

Close, but no cigar...why didn't this brilliant craftsman remain completely faithful to the real design? The video is soooo impressive. The devil is always in the details, and the details are wanting. I don't know what the thought process was... RR
