59 Outlaw just unearthed after 20 years

#1 Post by michael rogers »

Hi, I just picked up a 59 T-2 coupe it hasn't been driven in over 20 years, stored inside until the last 5 years. Pretty complete but I will need a front bumper. Same owner for the last 33 years. Hopefully it will be running and driving by the Nor Cal Vintage VW & Porsche Treffen on August 7th. Shamless plug......

I am a General Contractor and my painter saw it when he was painting a house and told me about the car. I contacted the wife of the owner because he was always to busy to talk to me but I developed a phone/email rapport with his wife and I would keep in touch with an email every 2 or 3 months, this went on for 2 years! Finally one day I get an email from her to tell me that he had listed the car for sale so I immediately called her and asked the price and told her over the phone without even looking at the car that I would take it to her surprise (no I will not tell you!). I then proceeded to try to arrange an appointment to go and look at the car which kept getting put off and I was worried the deal was going to fall through which it almost did but the guy from his work passed on the car because he wanted to do more research. Finally we set a date for me to come and view the car so I made sure to bring a trailer. And the rest is history.

It is always worth it to stay in touch with people and never give up. It doesn't always work out but you would be surprised how often you get the call, even if you have been working the car for 5-10 years! Good job Michael!
