Weber 44 IDF's on a 356 / 912

#1 Post by Greg Banfill »

I just did this conversion on the engine out of my '54.
Pretty straight forward with the correct adapter plates.
I decided to use them instead of the Porsche to Weber intakes so it's and easy switch back to P-11's or IDA's (with adapters) later on.

Lay out the adapters and make sure it's all there.

2x plates
4x base gaskets
4x IDF gaskets
8x plate to intake bolts
8x adpater studs

Shown here is one side (studs already installed).

Remove P-11's as well as the studs from the intakes.

Remove old OG base gaskets

Clean stock intakes thoroughly. I used a small 2" Scotch Brite pad

Install gaskets making sure they are opened enough for the stock intakes.

All good!

Install adapter plate and tighten.

I didn't install hardware for pictures as I was going to rebuild them before final install but wanted to get the pictures.

Repeat steps for the opposite side install linkage and tune.
My engine was already set up with a combo of Berg / 356 linkage from the IDA's so I just adjusted the rods. For a bone stock linkage I have seen new "levers" from the carbs that are a tad longer and will take the stock linkage directly.

I'll answer the PM's here (hopefully that is OK)

I pulled the IDA's off this engine to sell it. The used P-11's worked but needed some help and the buyer of the engine wanted something with no issues, so I decided to go with these rebuilt IDF's instead.

Yes I have the P-11 to IDF adapters available, as well as the Porsche IDF intakes if you choose to go that way.
