I had those cut-outs as well ... someone at the factory had bad taste. Wish, I saw your solution before! The welding and fabricating took quite some effort.

Good attention to detail - I like how you recreated the lip at the bottom! Will the paint stick to the tape though?

C J Murray- I briefly considered that when posting. But, the non-stock style tape made it an "outlaw job" in my book.

Dirk Heinrich- This is just a functional(?) short-term "mock-up" for visual purposes. I need to get an original style dual exhaust before I attempt closing the non-factory exhaust cut-outs properly. At the same time, I plan on smoothing the sheet metal on that section of the body, and mounting the tag. I don't enjoy looking at the unused and haggard cut-outs. Interestingly, I've spent more time taking and posting images, than taping and painting. I do not expect for the taped areas to last very long. Especially the driver's side, close to the goofy muffler. But, I think the paint will stick. It is a high quality exterior alkyd paint.

Max, I think you missed a hole unless you still have to tape on the the reflector.Image

Mike Klapac- True, I missed a hole. Good eye! :D I have one glass reflector mounted on the driver's side. I am in the process of deciding if I will use these glass reflectors or not. I'm leaning toward the "clean" look without them. I also would hate to have a minor impact in Atlanta traffic and destroy them. I've already elected not to weld-up the factory bumper holes, bumper bracket holes and the reflector holes. So, tape it is.

That reflector tape is SOLAS Brand. It is amazing. I've used it on motorcycles, helmets and trailers for years. Very bright and very sticky. With all the talk of poor lighting on our 6 volt cars, I figured it couldn't hurt. Oh, and it has a good thickness and stiffness to it, great for covering above mentioned holes. It's good to be seen!

Attached an image of last Sunday, at a car show. Very clean restored Speedster. Interesting, to me, how different these two 356's rear sections look. I have a fastback!
