windshield rubber w/out locking insert

#1 Post by Dirk Heinrich »

I am looking for a A windshield rubber that does not need the locking insert. So far I have always thought people just leave the trim of if they don't want it, but then I saw this picture:

Who owns this car?

Thx for any leads!

Though I'm not 100% sure, I thought that the cheapo Cal-Look rubber available from all the VW rubber vendors would work on F+R 356 windows. No channel for the seal, but no molded corners either. Do 356 seals come with molded corners?

Dirk

Why not just use the old trim but paint it flat black to match the rubber?

Jim - did you look at the pic ^^. I think, this is definitely a better/cleaner option.

Dirk

It just looks to me like a regular seal without the trim installed. Maybe that is why I have an eye appointment tomorrow at 8:45AM.

Dirk, I looked into this about a year ago and I also came under the impression that the VW cal look rubber was used. If not I too am interested in 356 specific smooth rubber.

@ Restomod, Thats just two different size windshields. Rubber profile should be the same. As to which one is the close to the right sze .....I dont know. I would think you need to get the longest/biggest one (later model) so you have enough material. A splice is inevitable.

Call WW or WCM and get a measurement on the length of their rubber. Might even be Super Beetle. I wouldn't be surprised if they knew what fit right off the bat. I don't think that either of the guys who own those companies are strangers to 356.

If all else fails, get a Bay Window front seal and cut it yourself. I'm sure you can buy some sort of vulcanizing rubber cement to bond it.

Hey Brock,

WW is wolfsburgwest.com, and

WCW is westcoastmetric.com

I found this though:

http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp ... -845-121-B

Maybe it would be a good idea to measure the bugs' windshield circumferences and our cars' windshield circumference !?

A smaller rubber could work for the rear!?

Thanks Dirk. Too long in VW circles where everyone knows everything (or at least thinks they do).

I have my A windshield out and could measure it. I'll try to get back on here tonight and post what I find.
