Lipstick on a pig - Knecht conversion

#1 Post by Dirk Heinrich »

I am running Webers, but of course never liked the air filters they are fitted with. Nothing beats the Knecht wire-mesh look.
Instead of just buying the adapter plate, I 'll try to make my own and at the same time do the conversion to fit K&N filter elements in them (thx for your help Mike!).

Going through all this trouble, I figured they need to look right as well - the ones without the hole on top are to valuable to be cut-up, so I figured, I'd put some lipstick on the pig:

... still need to fill the pin-holes (J-B weld!?)

I'd braze it from the bottom.

That's a good try but the stamped Knecht logo will still be off set to one side. The S90 air cleaners had the logo centered (where the hole was). That should keep the experts talking to themselves! KTF

Tom, I guess that's why it's not in the authenticity corner ... it does it for me :D

Exactly, plus it's hard to see from the drivers seat!

Very cool look, how do you get your base-plates to bolt to the carb base?

I have a newbie S90 question; if a car has these cool wire air cleaners, does that make it a S90?

What about if it has the round wire cleaners?

1. It makes it an engine with Solex P40II carbs and the owner doesn't much care much what gets sucked into them.

2. It makes it an engine with Solex single-throat carbs and the owner doesn't much care...... etc.

Keep 'em flying...

Does anyone have any Knecht filters for sale at a reasonable price? By reasonable I mean not an arm and leg. No smart replies needed, just parts. Thanks, Mark
