Doing the interior on my 57 coupe and COA lists corduroy inserts on seats. Have original seats which were recovered, front seats have some of the remaining insets to go by but nothing original on the one piece rear bottom and back. Have a couple of other rears of unknown origin with different insert patterns. Does anyone have picture of rears in 57. Car appears to be transition between T! and T2..

Can't say for certain what the 57 inserts were like but the 58's were just straight-up-and-down and forward and back in the centers. You will however find that the wale, or width of the corduroy strips, are somewhat between what we know in the US as narrow and wide. Leave it to the Germans to be somewhat in between. It can be had though through some of the top reupholstery businesses.

I just saw something from Porsche about how it is reissuing vintage interior materials like houndstooth and corduroy seat inserts.

The goal is original appearance but with improved durability. The weave of the original houndstooth is, by all accounts, difficult to duplicate. Maybe the corduroy is easier and so more authentic.

My 65C had corduroy inserts per the Kardex... prior owner changed them - I believe due to the difficulty of finding a good replacement. I took the car to Autos International in Orange County, CA (I don't know your location but they will ship) and had the seats redone with the inserts. They have been in about 15 years without real signs of age. I believe that they will send/sell you a swatch.

Erlkonig Klassik is starting to offer interior materials. Is this what you're referring to?

I've been looking for grey cord insert material for my '53 coupe for years. Nothing. I will have to have it custom dyed I believe. There's a Dutch producer discussed in other threads here that produces something very close to the original beige corduroy Reutter used.

Randall, to answer your original question, I've seen the rear bench seat cushion and backrest both have vinyl when there were cord inserts on the front seats on a couple original-interior 1956 cars. I've also seen the center of the backrest be corduroy and the ends be vinyl on an original-interior '56 coupe. I don't know how common one vs the other was.

Speaking of Erlkoenig Klassis, has anyone purchased their 'Certificate of Production' and received it? I ordered one two years ago.

Thanks for sharing Edwin. That interior looks very original, and the corduroy looks very yellowed. Originally, I suspect it was a warm grey color.

This fabric matched the original as found under a reupholstery job on the aluminum GT/Speedster seats on my '59 GS/GT Coupe.
According to John Paterek, this fabric is available from a New York and London based firm called Holland and Sherry.
The key to the correct look is the 8 wales per inch specification.

Dick, I would like to know which Holland and Sherry 8-wale corduroy is in your photograph. I went to their website and I couldn't be sure which one to order. They seem very interested in style so your picture could be of last years version of "tan"and no longer available.
