My 356B has the last 2 numbers of the vehicle number stamped on front clip hardware. Most people I have talked to mention stampings on the driver side hinge but I know there is some variability on the stamping locations. Is this a common location? I have attached a pic (the pic is sideways for some reason).

My 1960 Roadster has the 2 digits stamped in the latch but not the hinge. I have been told that Roadsters did not have a hinge stamp--is that true? The hood is original to the car.

I couldn't find numbers on my hood hinge either however, they may be covered by paint.

FWIW my 1964 Reutter coupe has the last 3 digits of the chassis number stamped on the driver's side hinge and nothing on the latch. But based on the fit of the hood and the fact that I am the fourth owner of that car, I have serious doubts as to its originality.

I believe mine is a Karmann body so similar to Mike's it think the stampings are correct.

I just happened to strip my Reutter hood last week. Only stamping I found was on the welded hinge bracket on the hood frame.

Yes a Karmann/Reutter difference. One of many differences.
