Bosch Starter Model EED 0.5/6 L44

Does anyone know the origin of Bosch starter model EED 0.5/6 L44 ?

I pulled one off our 1960 Super 90 engine, car build date May 1960. The date code on the starter is "9Q" which I think translates to Sept 1959. So the date isn't completely out of bounds.

However, looking at the DerWhites Bosch reference I don't see mention of this model starter for a 356. I'm not finding hardly anything on the inter webs either, other than a couple classifieds claiming this model is a Porsche 6v starter. Insight appreciated.

It appears the correct model for our car is actually EED 0.5/6 L 35.

That is a VW starter for beetles, Ghia's and transporters around 1959-1960. The 10 digit # is 0 001 201 001 I am guessing on the 10 digit # because the cross reference from EED to newer number is not in the book. The list price in 1963 was $59.75

You have to be very careful when installing an early VW starter, as the contacts on the solenoid can easily make contact with the body.
