+1 what Jim said. '65C, 220994. Round knob, push fit, rubber strip around the pin, like photo.
Jim, you need new plastic mechanism covers!

That's excellent info, Jim! Much appreciated. It's interesting that some of the recliner levers were threaded and others weren't. Any ideas on that?

My 64C coupe, which I've owned since 1976, has black tulip shaped threaded knobs.
My 65C coupe, which I've owned since 2000, has black round knobs, which I have not tried to remove to determine if threaded or not.

Only 65 Cs and SC had push on knobs all the earlier ones than that had threaded knobs. Check out the article that I did years ago about seat recliners in the Registry Archives. That should help ID hinges. Another tid bit, 62 356T6Bs had restraints on both seats. Porsche, for some unknown reason, eliminated the restraints on the driver's seats in 63 and didn't put them back on till 1968.

Regards

Jim

Huh? My covers are pretty darn nice for original ones, if I do say so myself. What did you see in my picture that led you to believe they needed replacement? I wouldn't use one of the "new plastic mechanism covers" anyway. I can spot phony ones from 20 feet away.

To confirm Jim B's & Dave W's comments -

64C - 128312 Reutter - tulip
65C - 130914 - round

Never knew there were so many differences between the two cars...

McMaster Carr has threaded round ones with brass inserts or you could try filling yours with JB Weld ir similar and drilling and tapping new threads. I've also seen them drilled and Time Certs installed.

Rules are:

356B T-6 / early 356C: recliner face has round pivot on the side = tulip shape knob threaded

356C late: recliner face smooth = round knob with crush sleeve (not threaded)

Early 911/912 : recliner face smooth = tulip shaped knob with crush sleeve (not threaded).

On another thread, "seat parts", someone bought the round threaded knobs from McMaster Carr but when they arrived, they are too small. I suggest contacting Ed Rutherford at Klasse 356 as he had some in stock.
