356A steering wheel and dash knob color

#1 Post by Al Young »

my 356A speedster vin 82275, has black dash knobs and steering wheel. The wheel looks correct, but all I've seen are ivory and have a horn ring. Mine has a horn button, no ring. Any thoughts ?

Welcome to the registry, Al!

For 56/57 just the 'signal' button was standard fare on the speedster, but the 'signal ring' was available as an option. The ring became standard around 1958. I call it signal because if you had a ring, that was the horn and the button became a headlight flasher. You can easily tell by looking underneath your dash at the steering tube. 2 contacts = ring and button, one contact = button only.

As to the color - i do believe gray and ivory were the only colors available at that time. By 1959 black became an option, but i have only seen a single T2 with that option, It was rarely ordered. Post some pictures of your car please... we like pictures of 356s!
