P.C. Pacific Porsche of Burlingame

#1 Post by Rod R Youssefi »

I have a Kardex for a 64 356C that states the Handler was P.C. Pacific, Burlingame. I came across this in one of the members posts:

PCP is the acronym for Porsche Cars Pacific. In late 1959, Porsche Cars Pacific was formed, with Reynold C. Johnson president, to be the Porsche distributor to eight dealers in Northern California, Northern Nevada, and Utah.

The license plate holder on the vehicle says Felton Porsche/Audi, Marin. Does anyone know if P.C. Pacific distributed to Felton Porsche of Marin? I am trying to find out if the license plate holder is original to the vehicle from the dealer.

Thanks.

I have in my 1963 list: Leon C. Felton Co. at 601 Francisco Blvd in San Rafael in Marin County, California It was incorporated in 1959.
I would assume that PCP did cover the Felton dealership. By 1963 there were a lot more dealers (than eight) covered by PCP.

I have been trying to writ6e a history of the Porsche Dealerships in Northern California, and it is very confusing. In late 1959 Porsche changed it's distributorship, that when Porsche Cars Burlingame was added to the already existing VW parts warehouse. Before that Johnson Pacific was the VW distributor that also marketed Porsche to the dealers. The era of 1960-63 was one of making Porsche dealerships separate from VW. In the 50's there were about 32 Northern California VW dealerships many also sold Porsche, but weren't actually officially a "dealer". Example Oliver VW in Berkeley sold privately imported/tourist delivery cars in the 50's. Others also would solicit tourists. military, airline pilots, and anybody visiting Germany, to purchase the cars upon arrival for a profit. Johnson Pacific moved from Burlingame to Pleasanton in 1967-68. Porsche Audi opened up in the same site in late 1970.
There are several different issues of the "Dealers from Coast to Coast" brochure, from 1955 to 1960 or 61, most are undated.

Audi wasn't brought to America until around 1970, so, Felton would not have been Porsche/Audi in 1964. Felton VW-Porsche is possible. Maybe the car was traded in to Felton and the plate frame replaced.
