59 cab paint color code

#1 Post by Felix Macaluso »

I decided to restore our '59A cab to its original paint after 40 years as black. The Kardex I have indicates an assembly date of March 6, 1959 and the paint color to be reihergrau with a kardinalroi interior. There is no paint color listed but I take the color combo to be Heron Gray with red interior. Since Heron Gray is a '60 standard color but not '59, it is my assumption that using Porsche color code 6007 (Reutter 739) will get me the correct color. Do you think Porsche jumped the gun on painting the car like this?

Any possibility of seeing the original color hidden somewhere on the car, behind the riveted classic plate on the drivers door jam or other hidden points on the car.

Most of the paint has been sanded off. What is sort of gray/white might be primer. I am looking for confirmation from another owner that a '60 paint code is what is on the door jamb label (mine is long gone).

I'd love to see that Kardex, it certainly sounds unusual. I have seen early use of a paint code on a 911 (1966 code on a 1965) for a special customer.
