License Plate Shine Up Lights - Bumper Mount

#1 Post by Dennis Vogel »

Has anyone uncovered the details of original bumper mounted license plate shine up lights and lenses for 356B and C? That would be Porsche part 644.631.601.05 for the complete light. I only see the one number, so I'm assuming it's the same for all B and C. No distinction for 6 versus 12 volt either.

I found a post on the frame that suggests it doesn't have any markings. Haven't dug anything up with regards to the correct markings for the original housing and lens.

Thank you.

I have yet to see a 356 outer chrome cover with markings.

Can anyone address:
  • Electrical housing front: Are they all marked "5W", regardless of whether the car is 6v or 12v?
  • Electrical housing back: I have seen some marked "Hella K12844". Are there other variations?
  • Lens markings: I am seeing a lot of markings on that little lens. Among them "IGM Made in Germany Hella 1372IT K12844 (A) 2236" I assume there variations like on reflectors, reverse lights, and headlight lens. Is there a distinction for reproductions and / or year variations?
