Fresh air duct decal

#1 Post by Robert Kenton »

At the Werks Reunion last month, the judge stated that a red decal was only correct on ONE of the fresh air ducts, but not both, as is currently the case with my car, but didn't specify which side is the correct one for the presumed single decal. A few respected sources think, but are not certain that it should only be on the right (passenger) side. Anyone know for sure? Reference? Thanks in advance.

The right hand side -- or the left hand side as you are looking straight on into the trunk. If you wonder, no, the Behr sticker is not on the left hand air duct on the side you can't see -- in case you are thinking of removing to check out of curiosity. I guess they thought one sticker was enough free advertising for Behr (located down the street from the factory).

Green paint inspection mark noted. But, should the side rivets be painted ? or, were they installed after painting and would be bar or zinc plated? I don't know -- just wondering.

Here is a photo of the back side of the divertor from my car's drivers side. It shows only original paint and the original OEM code stamp. Rivets are painted. Perhaps they were not all the same.

The units with no paint on the rivits indicates that they were assembled after painting. This sequence would expose the separate parts to more scratches so it makes sense to assemble it first then paint.
My units are on a 64C so it appears that they may have made the assembly change between the two years.

Paul, If you take the screen off the front can you see paint on the inside?

Perhaps a relevant input:-
Herewith a hasty photo of my 65C cab's passenger side unrestored air intake duct, with original paint, unpainted rivets and decal. (No decal on driver's side duct.)

Any leads where I could get a half dozen or so of the rivets? My 63T6 passenger side air duct is missing a few and those that are there are unpainted. Thanks

Michael: check McMaster Carr, Belmetric or Metric Multistandard for rivets.

Like Wil, the unrestored air ducts on my '63 cab do not have painted rivets.

I've also seen a small piece of black friction tape inside the top of the duct where it is split.

Is anyone making the rubber outlets that go into the cabin?
