356A T 1 towing hook

#1 Post by Brett Johnson »

Anybody with a '57 T 1 356A coupe/cabriolet/Speedster have one without a towing hook or an early 1957 (calendar year) that has one? Flat floor cars should not have one, but might have drains! I don't need photos, just chassis numbers.

Didn't think any T-1s had the hook.

I’m under the same impression. My great big data point of one car (my 57 - VIN 10164Three) which is reported to have been 50 numbers away from the T1 cut off had one center rib on the battery box floor and no signs of a tow hook. A friend of mine, restored a 57 only a few VIN #’s away from mine and also no tow hook.

Never say never with Porsche, but I think tow hooks were a T2 introduced standard feature. I would love if others had other data points to prove or dispel our thinking.

Brett - Have you found any T1's that had a tow hook? I was thinking "maybe" a Carrera race car??? But usually Porsche eliminated weight any way possible, so adding a tow hook seems counter-intuitive to their thinking.

Brett, I have a 57A coupe, 58497, unrestored with a non rusty tub, numbers matching. Is there anything you are looking at for verification? It has teardrops, plastic sunvisors, speedo on the left side of the steering wheel and euro overriders as it was delivered in england. I have the Kardex, the page of the book recording the features as it came off the production line and the COA. I have photos of everything. Daniel
