I have a pair of steel wheels. They are Lemmerz, painted, say made in Western Germany, 1576, and dated 5/73.

So are these just late production wheels for 356 models?

Lemmerz made wheels long after the 356's were finished. I have a chrome set that sets 9/67

During the 356 era, I am not aware of any 5.5" wide wheels on production cars. The first 5.5" wide wheels for 911s were fitted in 1968. Earlier 911 wheels were 4.5" as well, even the first Fuchs alloys.

So, with a little more research, I've found out they never made them for the cars originally, but did sell them through the dealers and through Empi in the 70s. Obviously not that many, compared to the numbers they made for cars while in production. Here are some pics.
