type 519 transmission detail finishes

#1 Post by Robert Braunsberger »

I am planning to do a complete overhaul on my type 519 transmission and have started with the removal and disassembly of the outer hardware such as axle tubes, retainer plates, brackets etc. Any parts to be finished with paint will be brought outside to be prepped by sand blasting in the next few days but I was wondering if that is correct for all of these? E.g. the axle tube retained plates seem to have never been painted, rather finished with some type dark grey galvanic plating. Also, what about the correct finish of bolts and nuts? The transmission is from an early 1956 A.

Anybody got any inputs to this?
