ID on top latches

#1 Post by John Wurner »

This set of top latches came from a Roadster.
My Roadster has the ladder type latches, are there several types?
Thanks for your help.

Two types of latches on Roadsters. Ladder type (earlier Roadsters) and the ones you have pictured which are the later latches found on T5 and T6 Belgium Roadsters.

Porsche issued two similar convertible top manuals that explain the correct way to open and close the convertible top on the 60-62 Roadsters. One is dated 3.60 and the other is dated 6.60. The one dated 3.60 was for the early Roadsters (vin #s 86831 to 87825), which were equipped with the early top latches (the ladder-type latches), while the one dated 6.60 was for the later Roadsters (vin #s 87826 to 89483 and 89601 to 89849), which were equipped with the later latches, as shown in John's photo.

I have reproduced both of these manuals: https://porsche356registry.org/classifieds/14343

Reviving a really old thread. I think there were 2 ladder latches, one was for a speedster and the other was for the Conv D and early roadsters. The only difference that i know of is the base of the ladder part. The tab that is attached to the base for speedsters is totally vertical. The roadster and Conv D have tabs that go up at an angle. Anyone making the roadster latches or have an extra one?

The handle is different as well for the ladder type. The speedster top frame has a different angle, the handle is curved a bit more than on the conv D.

Brock,
Sorry I just saw this thread.
You might ask Stoddard for the part your looking for.
I believe they reproduce both the Speedster and Conv. D latches.

I was told that Stoddard no longer offers the Convertible D/Roadster latches.
