early 356 preA flat blade screwdriver handle

#1 Post by Donald Pirch »

I've researched this screwdriver (SD) on the Cherneff 356 Tools website http://356tools.com/toolkits.htm tool kit standards and am preparing to reproduce these for early pre-a 356 guys who don't have one and don't know what to look for. I've made a trial SD handle on my wood lathe, but I'm uncertain about one detail that I see in the standards photos and Jim Perrin's tool kit article in the 356 Registry magazine for March/April 1999, page 32. The black wood tapered cylinder handle has 4 sides, two have a pair of grooves (flutes) down the length of the SD. I'm uncertain how the other two sides are shaped. They may be simply cylindrical with the same surface shape as the sides with grooves. But the Perrin photos show what could be a FLAT on the other two sides covering the same length as the grooves and with an unknown width. This FLAT could be an optical illusion in the photo, but seem real to me. Please respond if you have one of these SDs or have seen it and know this answer. Thanks.

Don it is not an optical illusion, your vision is fine.
Two sides are flat, and the other two sides are rounded with flutes in them.
The left and right side of this driver are the flat sides.
